Job Summary

The Black and Missing Foundation is seeking a talented writer to join its team in crafting compelling content for various platforms. As a key member of the communications department, the writer will be responsible for creating op-eds, press releases, media advisories, newsletters, and blog posts that raise awareness about missing persons of color. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in journalism or communications, with a passion for storytelling and advocacy. This part-time position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact by amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and shedding light on cases that often go unnoticed. Responsibilities

  • Craft engaging and impactful op-eds, press releases, media advisories, newsletters, and blog posts to raise awareness about missing persons of color
  • Collaborate with the communications team to develop content strategies that resonate with diverse audiences
  • Conduct research on relevant topics and stay updated on current events related to missing persons
  • Ensure all written content adheres to the organization’s tone, messaging, and brand guidelines
  • Interview subject matter experts, families of missing individuals, and community members to gather compelling stories and information
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborate with graphic designers, photographers, and videographers to create multimedia content that complements written pieces

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a concentration in public relations, communications or journalism
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, and/or agency experience
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks effectively
  • Travel as need for press events
